Morro Bay isn't ready for offshore wind, study shows
Good morning. It’s Thursday, and I’m reading about the last dog abandoned in the Eaton fire to find his forever home, according to a Pasadena animal shelter. Onto the five Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and California stories you need to know for today.

A new study shows that Morro Bay is not yet ready to be the landing pad for proposed offshore wind project operations. The city would have to deeply dredge the bay to make room for operations and crew transfer vessels to dock. Also, three businesses would have to relocate from their oceanfront properties and the area must be rezoned before building wind-related infrastructure. The zoning changes will likely go to city voters, as the city council showed no interest on imposing it so far.

Cal Poly Women’s Golf won the Big West Championship in Hawaii after coming in as an underdog. The Mustangs were ranked No. 5 out of nine teams in the tournament and hadn’t won a championship in two years. As each player finished the course, they said they were nervous and trying not to show it to the teammates who were still playing. The top two scorers on the team placed fourth and fifth. The team will now go on to the NCAA Division I regional tournament.

Today is the last day to see Corazon Cafe’s Chingonas gallery that honors “badass women who inspire.” Some 20 artists from 5 years old to 85 years old submitted pieces, most submitting multiple. Some pieces were mixed media, some digitally drawn and others painted, such as the portraits of Michelle Obama, Gloria Steinem, Jane Goodall and Frida Kahlo. The most reflective piece, you could say, was a mirror decorated with flowers and the words “ERES CHINGONA.”

The Supreme Court ruled that Louisiana relied too heavily on race to decide its congressional district borders. While this won’t affect California’s implementation of Proposition 50, which redrew boundaries to favor Democrats by a predicted five seats, the effect of Prop 50 might be negated now. This ruling opens up the possibility of more Southern states redrawing their maps and basing it on political party, which the Court has previously allowed. One analysis showed this could benefit Republicans by up to 12 seats.

Seven student teams debuted short films at the Fremont Theater on Monday, most produced in classes and on from the Mustang Film society. Viewers coming out of the theater said the films felt like “pieces of a puzzle going together,” were “really funny, very witty,” were relatable, exposed the secret acting talents of their friends, showed the “rawness of college clubs,” made them miss their high school friends, made them laugh and made them cry.
