Cal Poly Beach Volleyball wins Big West title
Good morning. It’s Monday, and I’m reading about how the rain affects local strawberry farms. Onto the five Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and California stories you need to know for today.
1.
Cal Poly Beach Volleyball won the Big West championship, handily rising to the top of the tournament before beating out Hawaii for the title this weekend. It’s been two years since the Mustangs won the Big West title, despite being the strongest team in the league. The last time they won it was also on home sand. The team will now compete in the NCAA tournament in Alabama.

SLO County District Attorney Dan Dow warned a political group that it has until today to correct the status they filed for after noticing that they were potentially exclusively funding one candidate for Board of Supervisors. The group filed as a general committee, which means it supports multiple candidates and has lower standards for reporting where it spend its money, rather than as a group to support one candidate. The coalition was founded just weeks ago.

Homeless residents who live on the Bob Jones trail will move into permanent supportive housing come June. As Welcome Home Village nears the end of its construction, staff have been developing long term relationships with residents in order to facilitate the move. The $10.5 million, state-funded project will provide 40 permanent units, 14 interim units, medical support, counseling, daily activities like skills building, crafts and cooking classes.

Californians will decide whether or not voters will need to show proof of citizenship when they cast their ballot in the future. Republicans gathered enough signatures to send it to this November’s ballot. It would require voters to show a government-issued ID at the polls, which would need to be verified by county elections offices. For mail-in ballots, it would require the last four digits of an ID number, like drivers license. Currently, California only requires those when people register to vote.

Yelp ranked the best outdoor patios and rooftop bars to eat or drink at in SLO County. Heres what it said: Luna Red got the top spot both for its food and its “dreamy, romantic vibe”; after that was Novo, whose shady patio overlooks the creek downtown; followed by Taste! Craft Eatery and Petra Mediterranean Pizza and Grill. For rooftop bars, Hotel SLO’s High Bar earned the No. 1 ranking with one reviewer saying the “ambiance is simply perfect.”
